Director Susanne Kennedy responds to the new balance of power between bodies, technical objects and machines with an aesthetic that is beyond the human. Distorted by masks, playback dialogue, doppelgängers and multimedia, the actors confront the audience with the question: who are we?
Born in Friedrichshafen, Germany in 1977, Susanne Kennedy studied theatre directing at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Amsterdam. She worked for several years in the Netherlands before she moved back to Germany.
For her production of Fegefeuer in IngolstadtSusanne Kennedy was named "young director of the year" by the magazine Theater heute, and awarded the 3sat prize. Fegefeuer von Ingolstadt and Warum läuft Herr R. Amok? were chosen to be staged for the Theatertreffen of the Berliner Festspiele in 2014 and 2015.
In collaboration with the Ruhrtriennale in 2015, the musical theatre parcours Orfeoand, in 2016 together with Markus Selg, the multimedia piece MEDEA.MATRIX were staged, with Birgit Minichmayr in the lead role.
In 2017 Susanne Kennedy was awarded with the "Europe Prize Theatrical Realities".
In 2019 she co-created Coming Society, an installative performance, with Markus Selg, in which the audience becomes the protagonist of an evolutionary game about the question of the future form of community. Most recently, Lena Newton's stage design in Kennedy's adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters (2019) at the Munich Kammerspiele won the title "Stage Design of the Year" in the critics' survey conducted by Theater heute magazine.
In January 2020, Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg designed a model for the creation of a world. ULTRAWORLD investigates consciousness as a virtual construction of the world and simulates the transformation of the human being within it.
In June 2020 they were able to show Oracle just after the lockdown ended in Germany. "Oracle" is an installation that can be visited individually and explores the transformative power of an oracle using artificial intelligence.
