CHILDREN OF THE SUN Red Torch theatre

One of the main premiers of the Festival is Children of the Sun, the performance by director Timofey Kulyabin based on the play by Maxim Gorky. This theatre production, which is an experiment with the genre of “new psychological theatre”, will be first shown in Novosibirsk in September, while as early as on 14 and 15 October, the Krasny Fakel (“Red Torch”) theatre will present its premier on the small stage of the Theatre of Nations.
Timogey Kulyabin Director
Graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in 2007 (under the direction of Oleg Kudryashov).
Since 2007 he is director of the Red Torch theater, where he staged The Queen of Spades by A. Pushkin, The High Wire Act by O. Antonov, Macbethby Shakespeare, Masquerade by Lermontov, Hedda Gabler by Ibsen, No Words, Evgeny Onegin by Pushkin, Kill by Shiller, Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov.
Productions of Macbeth (2008) and Kill (2013) were nominated for the Golden Mask National Theatre Award, production of Evgeny Onegin received two Golden Mask Awards – for the best lightning design (by Denis Solntsev) and Drama and Puppet Theatre Jury`s Special Award.
Cooperated with theatres of Riga (Livejournal at the Russian Drama Theatre, 2007), Yaroslavl (Carmen by Mérimée at the Volkov Drama Theatre, 2010), Saint Petersburg (The Overcoat. DRESS CODE, at the Comedian's Shelter Theatre, 2012), Moscow (Electra and #shakespearsonnets at the State Theatre of Nations, 2014).
In 2009 made his debut as director of opera with the production of Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 2014 he staged there Tannhäuser by Richard Wagner acknowledged the performance of the year according to the newspaper "Musical Review".
Since 2015 – he is Chief director of the Red Torch Theater.
Participant and laureate of numerous Russian and international festivals, including: European festival for young theater directors “PREMIERES” (Strasbourg), Theatre Festival Siberian Transit, Rainbow Festival, AcademyFestival, the International Volkov Festival, the International Pushkin Festival in Pskov etc. His recent production of Three Sisters was first presented at the VIII Russian Festival The Real Theater (Yekaterinburg), and then at the International Festival of Contemporary Art Territory (Moscow).
