ABOUT PERFORMANCE
Alexander Belousov's chamber opera is a musical and philosophical reflection on an updated idea of Spinoza concerning the need of a voluntary union of people on the basis of reason and common good. The title of this two-act opera, written as a piece of new academic music whilst referring back to the genre of Drama per musica (that is, to the origins of opera), carries in itself an idea of acquiring knowledge by way of mania, or obsession, whatever form that may take. In his new piece Maniagnosis Alexander Belousov - experienced in experimental electronics - fulfills this specific way of feeling time. He makes music out of texts that we hear in four different languages (including one which is invented)
