A musical play in the genre of “cabaret” staged by director Philipp Grigoryan in the Chateau de Fantomas club in Moscow The production is based on 12 songs of the Grazhdanskaya Oborona band’s frontman Yegor Letov and singer Yanka Dyagileva, which were rewritten and rearranged by musician and composer Igor Vdovyn: all 12 songs are performed by actress Alisa Khazanova.
Philipp Grigoryan, director: "Shining is a story of destruction of a fragile caramelized world built on a flimsy foundation of a girl’s fantasies, which can’t withstand the onslaught of reality that surges in through a crack in the protective membrane. The songs, charged with primal energy, form a counterpoint to the picture that unfolds in front of the viewers’ eyes. The polyphony of meanings that is born in the clash of audiovisual and semantical imageries creates a new image of Letov – not so much a rebel and a subverter of canon as a sensitive artist and poet, suffering from his own shortcomings as much as from the ugliness of the world”.
"Shining manages to combine literally incompatible things: the atmosphere of a secret exclusive Moscow club, the classic cabaret tradition and
the visceral energy of the Siberian punk”.— Kommersant Weekend
