ABOUT PERFORMANCE
Maria Tregubova is one of the most acclaimed stage designers in Russia. She has created the stage design for the opera Manon Lescaut at the Bolshoi Theatre, as well as for immersive performances like Maksim Didenko’s Black Russian, major dramatic productions at Moscow Art Theare, Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater, Alexandrinsky Theatre, Russian Academic Youth Theatre, Taganka Theatre and the Theatre of Nations, and small chamber performances. Maria Tregubova will speak about visual theatre, drawing mainly on her work at Dmitry Krymov Lab, where visual expression forms the very foundation of performances.
Maria Tregubova is a stage designer. She has created designs for over 30 productions in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Helsinki, Odessa, Dusseldorf and Budapest. She studied at 1905 Moscow State Academy of Art and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (Stage Design, the course of Dmitry Krymov). From 2008 to 2014 she was the chief designer of Dmitry Krymov Lab at the School of Dramatic Arts. She has been nominated for and received several Golden Mask awards, including for the stage design for Alisa at Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater (2015, directed by Andrey Moguchy) and for the costumes for the musical performance Run, Alisa, Run at Taganka Theatre (2019, directed by Maksim Didenko). She has also received the first prize of the Prague Quadrennial for her design of the Russia Pavilion, as well as Proryv Prize (St Petersburg) and Oleg Yankovsky Award Creative Discovery (Cherry Forest Festival, 2017).
