ABOUT PERFORMANCE




Alexey German will talk about the possibilities for the Russian movie-making industry to integrate into the European context and about the complexity of communication and sociocultural differences between European and Russian film.

Alexey German Jr., born in 1976, graduated from the VGIK Film School (studied from Sergey Soloviev and Valery Rubinchik). When still a student he made several movie shorts – amongst them: The Banner (1998), The Big Autumn Field (1999) and The Fools (2001). His debut film was a war drama The Last Train (2003) that was given a Nika Award - nomination Discovery of the Year. Alexey German directed such films as – Garpastum (2005), The Paper Soldier (2008); as well as shorts – Kim (Short Circuit) 2009, From Tokio (2011) and 5000 Days Ahead (2013). His film Under Electric Clouds (2015) won the best camera award at the Berlin Film Festival. At the moment Alexey German is working on a new film Dovlatov that will tell the story of the last few days of the writer Sergey Dovlatov.
