An unique retrospective of European Choir tradition from birth until the end of 20th century.
A Teodor Currentzis project presents performers of the Musica Aeterna Ensemble Chamber Orchestra and the New Siberian Singers Choir. The unusual concept for the event was suggested by its location — Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Currentzis continues his experiments geared at returning old musical texts, and reviving their authentic sound. The historical part of the program is composed of the Vision, of Sister Hildegard of Bingen, a prophetess from the Middle Ages; reading from an anonymous author from 14th century manuscript compilation titled the Rossi Codex; motets by the master of strict style Josquin des Prez, Lamentations of Jeremiah by Emilio de' Cavalieri, madrigals by Gesualdo da Venosa and a musette by Marin Marais. The contemporary Neféli foteini (Bright Cloud) by a 20th century Greek composer Michael Adamis, using the canonical text from the Gospel of St. Matthew, and Alfred Schnittke's Concerto for Mixed Chorus on the verses of 10th century Armenian poet Gregory of Narek.
